Can Someone Protect Ashton Jeanty From The New York Jets?

The New York Jets. This team is a dumpster fire. This team is the laughing stock of the NFL, and a collection of humans who has been the butt of the league’s jokes for quite some time. Jets fans don’t like it. The city of New York doesn’t like it. But with their recent display of mediocrity over the years (more like decades)……it’s been hard for them to shake that burden.

They have been in a rough spot. But now, with the NFL Draft just weeks away, it looks like Aaron Glenn and co. will look to right the ship as they move into a new era of Jets football. But who will they take with the 7th overall pick? Well…..some rumors suggest that it could be Ashton Jeanty.

Jeanty, for those of you who are unaware, is the top running back in this year’s Draft. The All-American RB was the runner-up for the Heisman last year for the Boise State Broncos, posting a stat-line that consists of;

374 Att, 2601 Yds, 7.0 Y/A, 29 TDs, 185.8 Y/G

He was the elite of the elite, showing his versatility as both a runner and a pass-catcher. His uncanny ability to shed tackles and maintain momentum through traffic, mixed with the vision and anticipation that he possess to help evade defenders, has made him one of the top prospects in the game today.

The man is something special, and like I said in my article a few weeks back……I think I’m sold on the thought of the former Bronco becoming a Chicago Bear. He seems like a smart play for Ben Johnson and co. to make at this time. If he were to fall that far, it would reset their running back timeline, while also giving the team a way to get out of D’Andre Swift’s contract.

Now, would Chicago need a lot to go their way in order to land the star running back? Yes! I understand that. But even if he doesn’t end up with the navy and orange, I think it’s safe to say that NO ONE wants him to don Jets colors. That would, for lack of a better term…..be the death of a promising career for the young man.

It would, it really would. This organization has had a god-awful track record over the past number of years when it comes to running backs. They have looked like the AARP of the National Football League; bringing in guys like Matt Forte, LaDainian Tomlinson, and Frank Gore at the tail-end of their careers. Not only that; the last time this poor-excuse of a franchise had someone post three straight 1000+ yards seasons……was Thomas Jones from 2007-2009.

Simply put…..this team is a poor excuse of an organization, and I have no reason to believe that any running back who walks into their establishment will succeed. If Darren Mougey and company decide to take the Jacksonville product at #7 in this year’s draft, he’s going to fizzle out faster than a cheap firework at a 4th of July product.

Could I be wrong? Absolutely! But after looking at their previous failures…..I just don’t want Mr. Jeanty to turn into another statistic.

Someone save him, please! But in the end, as always…..what do I know? I’m just a guy from the Midwest, with a beer and a laptop, trying to make sense of this world.
