Bills Secure Their Future on Defense and Special Teams with Key Extensions
After cutting Sam Martin to help with the salary cap Bills fans were looking to see what it would be spent on and on Saturday, March 9th, Buffalo fans got their answer as they locked up two key players with contract extensions. This was after re-signing linebacker Terrel Bernard, to a 4 year 50 million $ contract with 25.2 guaranteed, yesterday, and the Bills wanted to continue improving as they locked up defensive end Gregory Rousseau, and long-time long snapper Reid Ferguson. These deals are very important to keep maintaining a strong core on both defense and special teams for years to come.
The Gregory Rousseau is the main focal point as the 2021, 30th overall pick out of Miami, has been a stud for this defense every since he was drafted, and it is so good to hear that we didn’t play around in securing his future in Buffalo. As on Saturday Rousseau agreed to a four-year, $80 million contract extension to remain with the Bills through 2029. Of the $80 million total value, $54 million is guaranteed, according to reports. Rousseau has been a consistent presence off the edge, recording 8 sacks and 15 STF in 2024. With his size, athleticism, and continued development, Rousseau’s extension keeps Buffalo’s pass rush strong for years to come, especially with Von Miller nearing the latter stages of his career.
Not to be forgotten, the Bills also extended one of their most reliable special teams players, Reid Ferguson. The veteran long snapper, who has been with Buffalo since 2016 and is their longest tenured player, signed a four-year extension, ensuring that the Bills’ kicking and punting units remain stable. While long snappers don’t always make headlines, Ferguson’s consistency has been a key factor in Tyler Bass’ success over the years.
These moves show Buffalo’s clear plan to keep its defensive core intact while maintaining stability in special teams. With Rousseau hunting quarterbacks, and Ferguson locking down the long-snapping duties, the Bills are setting themselves up for sustained success. Now, with these contracts finalized, fans can turn their attention to the upcoming season as Buffalo continues its push for a long-awaited Super Bowl title.
