Baseball Bets: Friday March 28th
Welcome to another edition of Baseball Bets! Opening Day did not disappoint and a lot of amazing things happened out there! Happy Friday and let’s make some picks!
Dylan Cease Over 5.5 Strikeouts (-145)
The Braves offense can rake and will likely improve as the series comes along. It’ll be a tough test, because coming to the mound is Dylan Cease.
Cease is a strikeout machine. In 33 starts last year, he reached this mark 20 times, so the odds are really high in his favor to accomplish this feat. He finished with 224 strikeouts last season and finished in the 89th percentile for strikeout percentage.
He has a nose for the zone, so I absolutely love this pick.
Junior Caminero 2+ Total Bases (+100)
This would be one way to welcome yourself to your new home for the 2025 season. One of the more special young talents in the league is Junior Caminero. He was a bright spot once he got called up and now is a huge focal point to their attack offensively.
The Rays are taking on the lefty in Kyle Freeland. Last year, Caminero had success against lefties. He was hitting .346 with an .837 OPS. The sample size was small, but the damage was getting done. Of his nine hits, two went for extra bases. He’s definitely more comfortable at the MLB level, so I like the odds of him getting 2+ total bases here today.
Juan Soto Home Run (+400)
Juan Soto did get his first hit as a Met officially yesterday. However, the team did manage to lose. But today is a new day and it won’t get any easier as they face the righty in Hunter Brown.
This offense is potent and will be led by Francisco Lindor and Soto himself. What a way to turn the tide in the series and a game by hitting your first home run of the year. Home run picks are a true gamble, and it is like picking a player to score in the game of hockey. But Soto had huge success against righties in 2024.
Soto hit 28 of his home runs against righties handed pitchers in 2024 and was slugging .578 with a .999 OPS. That’s some pretty big numbers. In his career against Brown, which is two games he has two hits with one being a double. A home run is lofty but not impossible.
