Alex Bregman To The Cubs? It’s Still In Play!
The Chicago Cubs are going all-in this season. They are ready to fight for a title, with the 2025 PECOTA Projections placing the Cubs at 90.6 wins on the year. This is the same team who went from almost making the playoffs, to having one of the most disappointing seasons in recent memory, throughout the past two years. But with the recent addition of Kyle Tucker, and the various additions that they’ve made around the roster…..this team is looking to make a run in 2025.
The question that arises though is…..who is going to play 3rd base for them? Who will man the hot-corner for Craig Counsell’s bunch, when they try to take over the Central this year? Well, according to multiple reports…..it looks like a former World Series champion may be making his way to the ‘Windy City’ sometime soon.
Sources have confirmed that the Cubs have offered Alex Bregman a four-year contract, with opt-outs, worth north of $100 million@MATrueblood with @northsidebaseb was first with the report

That is right, Chicago; Alex Bregman to the Cubs is still a thing. It is still a possibility. For those of you who don’t know, the 2x All-Star has been in this league for nine seasons, compiling a stat-line consisting of;
.272 BA, 191 HRs, 663 RBIs, 42 SBs, .366 OBP, .483 SLG
He has been a source of electricity for the Houston Astros in recent years, helping to lead the former National League Central member to two World Series titles in a five year span.
Bregman is a solid piece to the roster who, if signed, could help the Cubs fill a need for a corner infielder that was left vacant by the departed Christopher Morel and Isaac Paredes. If signed, Bregman would also reunite with his former teammate Kyle Tucker, who he spent the last seven years playing with down in Houston.
The question that arises though is……would this be a solid pick-up for the Cubs? The quick answer….ABSOLUTELY! This team needs all of the World Series caliber talent that it can muster. It needs the names like Bregman and Tucker, who can help round out a roster that was missing some key pieces over the past two years.
Not only that; Bregman is also only 30-years old. He’s still competing at a somewhat high level in this league, that can make him a valuable asset to the Cubs in their time of need. He can be that ‘veteran piece’ that can be the cornerstone of this franchise for the next few years, while the front office figures out the rest of the roster.
The problem that arises though is……there are a lot of guys who only have a few years left on their contracts. There are a lot of guys, like Kyle Tucker and Ryan Pressley, who are going to be free agents in the next one-to-two years. There’s NOT A LOT of time to utilize these players before their time runs out, which means that 2025 and 2026……are almost “do or die” years for the former “Lovable Losers.”
They are, they really are. Unless Jed Hoyer and the rest of the cronies in the Cubs’ ivory towers can make something happen, this team may collapse on itself very quickly. Sure, there is a very talented crop of players in the minors who are ready to come up at a moment’s notice. But as of right now…..the Cubs are in “win now” mode, if they sign Bregman. It’s championship or bust for this organization.
Sure, I would love to see another title! But they better figure it out in 2025, or else……yikes!
But in the end, as always…..what do I know? I’m just a guy from the Midwest, with a beer and a laptop, trying to make sense of this world.
