Adolis Garcia To Miss Time With Oblique Injury

Oblique injuries have not been kind to Rangers outfielders as we head closer to the start of the 2025 season.

Less than two weeks after second-year star Wyatt Langford went down with an oblique injury, one of his fellow outfield stars will be sidelined with the same injury.

On Tuesday morning, Adolis Garica reported to Surprise and told the Rangers medical staff that his left oblique was bothering him.

Garcia, who was originally scheduled to be in the lineup for the Rangers Cactus League contest against the A’s, was scratched.

Later in the day, Garcia will undergo an MRI, which will tell us the severity of an injury that the Rangers hope won’t keep their 2023 postseason hero out for long.

“He’s gonna miss a little bit of time,” Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said. “We’re hoping not much. I can’t tell you until we get the results from that MRI.”

If Garcia is unable to go at the start of the season, the outfield trio of Langford, Evan Carter, and Leody Taveras would likely get the starting nod, with Josh Smith and Ezequiel Duran having the possibility to get some more playing time there.

Additionally, another outfield spot on the roster would open up for someone like Kevin Pillar, who the Rangers signed to a minor league deal last month.

Following his heroic postseason in 2023, Garcia struggled in 2024, to the tune of a .224/.284/.400 slash line.

Those struggles prompted Garcia to stay in the DFW area during the off-season and make adjustments.

Garcia enters the 2025 season with a shortened swing, one that he thinks can help him return to all-star form.

Much of the Rangers’ success will hinge on the ability of players like Garcia, Jonah Heim, Josh Jung, and others to have bounce-back seasons at the plate.

Texas opens its 2025 season on March 27th when it takes on the Boston Red Sox at Globe Life Field.
