Rockies get swept by the Reds, fall to 4-23

The Colorado Rockies endured another tough outing at Coors Field on Sunday, falling 8-1 to the Cincinnati Reds and completing a three-game sweep by their visitors. This loss marks the Rockies’ sixth consecutive defeat, dropping their record to a franchise-worst 4-23 to start the season.

Reds’ starter Nick Lodolo was dominant on the mound, delivering seven innings of two-hit baseball while striking out nine batters. He carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning, which was broken up by an infield single from Jordan Beck. Lodolo’s performance was supported by a robust offensive showing from his teammates, who amassed 14 hits in total.

The Reds wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, plating three runs in the first inning against Rockies starter Bradley Blalock. They added four more in the fifth, capitalizing on a balk and a series of timely hits. Noelvi Marte led the offensive charge with three hits and three RBIs, while Gavin Lux contributed an RBI double in the first inning.

Blalock struggled in the spot start after the projected starter, Ryan Feltner, was dealing with some back tightness. He ended up allowing six runs on seven hits over four-plus innings. The bullpen didn’t fare much better, as Jimmy Herget struggled to keep runs off the board in the fifth and Scott Alexander gave up a run in the ninth. However, rookie reliever delivered a quality performance with two scoreless innings and notched his first career strikeout. Offensively, the Rockies managed only three hits, with their sole run coming from a sacrifice fly by Beck in the eighth inning to score Alan Trejo. They struck out nine times with a pair of walks.

This series sweep by the Reds underscores the challenges the Rockies are facing this season. With a 4-23 record, they are on pace for one of the worst seasons in MLB history. The team will look to regroup during their upcoming series against the Atlanta Braves
