Seager’s 6th Multi Hit Game In 8 Nights Lifts Rangers To Sweep Of Angels

It was only a matter of time before Corey Seager got going. After slumping out of the gate, it’s fair to say that he has arrived.

For the 6th time in his last eight contests, Seager recorded multiple hits. Tonight, one of those hits was a huge 7th inning home run to put the dagger in the Halos.

The Rangers took down the Angels 5-3 to secure the sweep and pick up their 9th consecutive home game.

With the win, Texas tied its longest home winning streak since moving to Globe Life Field in 2020 and tied its best 10-game home start in franchise history.

Seager’s 7th inning shot was his 100th as a Ranger becoming just the 25th player in franchise history to reach that mark.

“He [Seager] is one of the best hitters I’ve seen,” Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said after the game. “He’s fun to watch, it’s simple, he just has an incredible ability to get the good part of the bat on the ball, tremendous power, uses the whole field too. He’s a special player and we’re lucky to have him”.

Bochy saying that Seager is one of the best hitters that he’s seen is no light comment. It’s safe to say he has seen his fair share of hitters in his day.

Tonight’s win was Bochy’s 2,183rd career managerial victory in MLB, tying Dusty Baker for 7th on the all-time list.

Ironically, in a circle of life moment, Kumar Rocker got the start and earned his first career MLB victory, throwing 7 innings and allowing just 3 runs.

Most importantly, Rocker lived in the strike zone tonight, walking 0 batters while striking out 8 in a huge turnaround effort.

“It was a great job of bouncing back, wasn’t it?” Bochy said. “Threw strikes, no walks had a good slider to go with the big fastball, he just looked so good out there, didn’t he? He had a really good putaway pitch with that slider, he got some chances there and he pitched very efficiently too, seven solid innings, really happy for him, that’s a great way to bounce back off a good start”.

Without much more work to do, the Rangers bullpen was lights out once again. Chris Martin came back from his sore hip to throw a scoreless 8th inning, and with Luke Jackson having thrown the last two days, Robert Garcia came on to earn his first career save.

“I love the way he [Garcia] handled himself, to get his first save, but to go out there and just throw strikes the way he did, quality strikes with a 1-2-3 inning, that’s good to have. I said we would be fluid down there with how we use these guy,s and he showed he can handle that, he wasn’t in awe of anything when he was out there he got the save and so it’s nice that we have guys that we can mix up and give guys days off and fill in there. That was kind of the plan, Martin in the 8th during that part of the order, and he got the 9th”.
