AEW Dynamite Surpasses WCW Nitro with Spring BreakThru Episode

AEW Dynamite celebrated its status as the longest-running pro wrestling show on Turner Sports last night in Boston.

The Spring BreakThru episode was No. 289, passing WCW Nitro.

Remarkably, 67-year-old Tony Schiavone announced almost every episode of both shows.

DOWN WITH THE DEATH RIDERS

The Death Riders’ stranglehold on the AEW trios title is finally over, as Samoa Joe’s group (The Opps) captured the championship.

Both teams employed substitute partners. AEW World champion Jon Moxley wrestled in place of the injured PAC.

Hook was off the Opps team after a pre-show attack by The Death Riders. Powerhouse Hobbs took his place.

Samoa Joe put Moxley away with the Kokina Clutch to win the championship.

MONE IN THE BANK

Mercedes Mone defeated Athena in the opener to move to the finals of the Owen Hart Cup finals at Double or Nothing in May.

Mone is undefeated in AEW, and Athena has been the Ring Of Honor women’s champ for two years.

Will Ospreay beat Konosuke Takeshita in the men’s quarterfinals, while “Hangman” Adam Page defeated wild-card entry Josh Alexander.

Now added to the AEW roster, Alexander has won two World titles in TNA and the tag team belts with Ethan Page as The North.

THEY HURT PEOPLE

The Hurt Syndicate (Bobby Lashley & Shelton Benjamin) continued their AEW tag team title reign with a win over Gates of Agony (Bishop Kaun and Toa Leona).

Collision will take place tonight in order to avoid running against WrestleMania 41. Adam Cole will defend the TNT title in an open challenge.
