The first time that Patrick Corbin threw to Major League hitters was his last start in Chicago against the Cubs.

On Wednesday night, he saw big league hitters for the first time at Globe Life Field as a Texas Ranger and didn’t skip a beat.

Corbin fired 5.1 innings of one-run ball while striking out nine en route to his first win as a Ranger as Texas took down the Angels 3-1.

“I thought today just felt more comfortable with Jonah,” Corbin said after the game. “We were on the same page, and we were able to attack these guys the way that we wanted to. It just felt like some quicker outs, especially as the game was going, just made some pitches when I needed to”.

Corbin’s six strikeouts in the first time through the Angels’ order marked his most when facing an opposition’s lineup in a game for the first time since 8/3/21. His nine strikeouts come after not striking out a single Cubs batter in his last outing.

“A great job of pitching, he [Corbin] used all his pitches” Bruce Bochy said. “He changed speeds, went in and out, had a good fastball tonight but mixed in the cutter, slider, slower curve, changeup, just a terrific job of pitching, for a guy that missed Spring Training, that’s pretty impressive”.

It didn’t take long for the Rangers to get Corbin any run support as all three runs came in the second inning via an RBI single from Jake Burger and a two RBI single off the bat of Corey Seager.

“We had some big days, Corey swung the bat well, Marcus didn’t have a lot of luck there, I just thought guys made some contact and found some holes there to get three runs, we had some guys on base and hit some balls good to the wall but overall I thought they did a nice job offensively.

Protecting a slim lead, the Rangers’ bullpen once again put forth a strong effort as Shawn Armstrong, Jacob Webb, and Luke Jackson combined for 3.2 scoreless frames.

“These guys [bullpen arms] they’ve been worked a lot, and they’ve done a terrific job of picking each other up. Bochy said. “They’re all picking each other up in a good way, guys need a break, Martin [Chris] was out tonight, but it’s really cool to see them come in and do the job that they’re doing.

With the win, the Rangers improved to 8-1 at Globe Life Field, matching the franchise’s ever home start.
