How Dustin Harris’ Strong Play Could Affect The Rangers Roster?

After playing just 2 games at the big league level last season, Dustin Harris bulked up in the offseason and added 4 MPH of bat speed.

In his first at bat in his first start of this season, Harris crushed a Logan Gilbert slider deep into the right center field seats at T Mobile Park.

Later in the game, Harris made a nice running catch up against the wall in the outfield to help keep the Rangers in it.

Combine that with the impressive pinch hit at bat against Seattle closer Andrés Muñoz on Friday, and you realize that Harris had a pretty impressive weekend.

All of this comes as Harris is only with the big league team due to the oblique injury suffered by star outfielder Wyatt Langford.

However, if Harris continues his strong play, that may not be the case when Langford comes back later this week.

If Harris continues to play well this week, a struggling Rangers offense could opt to keep him with the big league team.

A move like this would likely come at the expense of Ezequiel Duran, who could be sent down to AAA for the second time this season after making the Opening Day roster.

With the way the Rangers roster is constructed, it’s tough to see where Harris could pencil in regularly when everyone is healthy.

However, as we’ve seen with Josh Smith, if you can hit, you can stick, and no one is better than Bruce Bochy at finding hot hitters at-bats.
