“A Bold New Dawn”: Colorado Rockies unveil City Connect Uniform 2.0
The Colorado Rockies have officially debuted their brand-new City Connect uniforms for the 2025 MLB season. After a highly praised first iteration, the club chose to try and go in a bold new direction their second time around.Ā This yearās edition marks the franchiseās second venture into the City Connect series, a collaborative initiative between Nike and Major League Baseball aimed at celebrating the unique identity, culture, and geography of each teamās home city. And for Colorado, this means embracing the full spectrum of the Centennial Stateās natural beauty.

The Rockiesā first City Connect uniform, released in 2022, leaned heavily into the stateās recognizable green-and-white license plate design. It was clean, minimal, and widely praised for its crisp mountain aesthetic. While there were certainly detractors, most rankings left the Rockies as one of, if not the best in all of baseball. But for 2025, the Rockies have taken a dramatically different pathāone filled with color, texture, and a desire to look to the future.
āThe license plate program was a little conservative,ā said Jim Kellogg, the Rockiesā vice president of community and retail operations. āIt was awesome, and the story was great. And so this is a complete 180 change from that, which is what it should be.
The new jerseys are anchored by a gradient pattern that mimics the vibrant hues of Coloradoās famous sunrises and sunsets. Shades of orange, violet, and blue bleed into each other, echoing the notable sunsets and summer skies over Denver. Itās a fitting tribute to a state where natureās palette is on full display.

One instance of a notable and bold change is a nod to the past. The jersey is designed as a pullover with a v-neck collar an homage to MLBās 1990s aesthetic as well as the pullover jerseys that adorn many a Little League team where players began their journey to the big leagues.
The new uniforms feature subtle and significant details that speak to the Colorado lifestyle. The jersey numbers feature a textured ripstop pattern, a reference to the outdoor gear common among Coloradoās winter athletes and adventurers. The mountains are an ever-prevalent force in the Rockies marketing brand, which demands including everything that entails for residents and visitors alike in the state.
Another standout element is the incorporation of a stylized mountain motif just above the waistline on the jersey, which mirrors the silhouette of the Front Range seen from Denver. Even the pants feature side piping that mimics ski tracksāa clever nod to Coloradoās world-renowned slopes. The Rockies chose to go with a white design for the pants after the first City Connect used green pants the first couple of years but was abandoned for the white pants after players complained they would get too hot during the day.
The hat sticks with the light blue color white adorning the Rockies signature mountain logo in the sunset colors of the jersey. The in-seam of the hat features a mountain pattern and sun that heralds back to the design and color of the city flag of Denver.

Fans wonāt have to wait long to see the uniforms in action. The Rockies will first wear them on Friday, April 18, in a home game against the Washington Nationals at Coors Field. From that point on, the team will don the City Connect set for every Friday home game throughout the remainder of the season.
This uniform update comes as part of Nikeās evolving City Connect program, which allows teams to redesign their alternate looks every three years. The idea is to keep things fresh and relevant, while still offering fans a connection point to the unique culture of their favorite ballclub.
It remains to be seen how these will fare in the public eye. After initial leaks of the jersey a few weeks ago, some fans were understandably hesitant about the design. While the colors and concept have been well received, the execution has left some a little weary. Particularly the button-less pullover takes a step away from traditional jerseys that may not be as well received across the league.
The Rockies are using the messaging of developing and blazing a new path forward as the motif for the uniforms. They tout the young players and team they have, yet the messaging may feel a bit tone-deaf considering the current state of the team with little to look forward to soon. Still, a new jersey is always a great marketing tool and it’s sure to make a splash like the previous iteration
