Could Corey Seager Be Heating Up At The Right Time?

On Wednesday afternoon, early in the Rangers 6-2 win over the Chicago Cubs, the Rangers Sports Network camera panned to Corey Seager’s interesting batting stance.

Seager’s foot placement within the box is no doubt one of the most unique in all of Major League Baseball.

Just a few pitches later, the camera panned out, and Seager drove a middle-middle fastball from Shota Imanaga, the opposite way into the left field bleachers, to give Texas a 1-0 lead.

In the 7th, Seager added another as he lined a ball into the right field baskets to extend the Rangers lead out to 6-1.

Seager’s two home runs were a part of a four-hit series in Chicago as he also wacked a pair of singles in the Rangers 6-10 loss on Tuesday.

“He’s [Seager] one of the best hitters in the game,” Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said after Wednesday afternoon’s win.

He’s such a big part of our offense. The key is to get guys on for him, obviously. But even with that, he just sends a sense of confidence throughout the club when he’s doing his thing.”

Despite the short sample size, Seager’s hot hitting couldn’t come at a better time for a struggling Texas offense.

Through the first 14 games, the Rangers rank 24th in average (.207), 28th in OBS (.269), 17th in SLG (.367), and 22nd in OPS (.636).

In addition to the numbers, the Rangers biggest early season power source is hitting the shelf as Texas placed Wyatt Langford on the 10-day IL with an oblique strain.

Even with Langford in the lineup, the bottom of the Rangers order has been doing the bulk of the lifting.

If the Rangers want to continue their hot start, the top and middle of the order will certainly have to get going sooner rather than later.

Zooming out into the bigger picture, Seager’s success at the plate goes a long way in terms of the Rangers’ overall success.

As the Rangers head to Seattle and then back home to face the LA teams, they hope that Seager’s two-game success in Chicago can be the start of an elite run.
