Ranking the Top MLB Free Agents for 2025-26 After Vlad Guerrero Jr.’s Extension
The MLB offseason is always a marathon as free agency does not have a designated timeframe. This means players can take their time in choosing their next destinations. Now, there will be one less option next year.
Vlad Guerrero Jr. and the Toronto Blue Jays came to terms on a 14-year, $500 million contract last week. He was expected to be the biggest fish in the pond next year and he is now off the board. It will still be a big-time free agent class next year with many top players.
Below, check out the top free agents heading into the offseason.
Ranking Top 2025-26 Free Agents
10. Zach Eflin: Eflin is one of the more interesting options during the cycle. He is off to a quick start this season and could take his stock to the next level if he keeps this up during a contract year.
9. Kyle Schwarber: Schwarber has been a slugger during his career. He is a DH with no position in the field but in today’s MLB, Schwarber’s bat remains extremely valuable. He has taken to Philadelphia but the Phillies have many options hitting free agency. It will be interesting to see the plan.
8. JT Realmuto: Realmuto will be the top catcher available the offseason. He is out of his prime but continues to be a two-way stud behind the dish. The Phillies will likely try to keep their backstop around for a few more years.
7. Walker Buehler: Buehler was given a one-year deal in Boston and will be on the open market once again. He has suffered injuries that have taken his stock down a notch but he is attempting to prove that at full strength, he is still elite.
6. Bo Bichette: Guerrero Jr. might be returning but this likely means that Bichette will be on his way out. He has taken the next step as a shortstop and has improved as an overall bat. Bichette might be off to a slow start here but many teams will be in on the young shortstop.
5. Michael King: Starting pitching is deep in this cycle and King will be highly-coveted. He has less time as an ace than other options but has completely broken out in San Diego. The Padres have options to move starters this year and it will be interesting to see how they play it out.
4. Framber Valdez: Some might forget about Valdez in the grand scheme of things. He has remained extremely consistent for the Houston Astros. He might not be viewed as a star but continues to be one of the best pitchers in baseball.
3. Dylan Cease: Cease is the other ace in San Diego with many options. The Padres decided to hang onto Cease in the offseason after trade rumors. He will likely ask for a contract more valuable than King.
2. Zac Gallen: The Arizona product has turned into the next great pitcher in the league. The Diamondbacks added Corbin Burnes on a major deal this offseason. Could this mean Gallen is on his way out or would Arizona want to keep one of the top one, two punches together?
1. Kyle Tucker: Tucker was moved this offseason as the Astros saw the writing on the wall with contracts around the league. Tucker will be the next outfielder to sign for an astronomical amount of money. Many big-market teams will be in on Tucker right away. He enters the offseason as the clear-cut, No. 1 free agent option.
