Cleveland Guardians Beat Chicago White Sox on Last-Minute Injury
The Chicago White Sox can’t catch a break.
One year after posting the worst record in baseball history (41-121), the Sox have started this season with a 2-9 mark.
Last night, they had a chance against the Cleveland Guardians and closer Emmanuel Clase.
Trailing 3-1 in the ninth, the White Sox loaded the bases. Miguel Vargas singled to left field, scoring Jacob Amaya.
MikeTauchman was racing around third, trying to beat Steven Kwan’s throw to the plate.
However, he suffered a leg injury on the way home, and Bo Naylor tagged him out to end the game.
Clase picked up his first save of the season after racking up 47 last year.
EARLY OFFENSE
The White Sox took a 1-0 lead against Cleveland starter Logan Allen on an RBI single by Lenyn Sosa.
Jhonkensy Noel tied the game in the bottom of the first with a single to score Kwan.
Ramirez scored on wild pitch to give Cleveland a 2-1 lead. He hustled to the plate even though the ball didn’t roll far from the catcher
Carlos Santana, who celebrated his 39th birthday on Tuesday, hit a 410-foot bomb to right center field off White Sox starter Sean Burke (1-2).
The Guardians’ maintained the 3-1 lead until the end of the game, thanks to the bullpen heroics of Paul Seward (1-1), birthday boy Hunter Gaddis, Jakob Junis, and Tim Herrin.
SEARCHING FOR A SWEEP
Cleveland won Tuesday’s home opener 1-0 on a walk-off walk by Nolan Jones.
The Guardians will go for the sweep today at 1:10 p.m. Gavin Williams will start for Cleveland against Jonathan Cannon for the White Sox.
