Dansby Swanson homers in Cubs 10-6 win over the Rangers

Dansby Swanson struggled at the plate last season, batting just .242 with 16 home runs. It turns out he was playing through an injury. He had offseason core muscle surgery and has looked more like the player the Chicago Cubs were getting when they signed him to a seven-year $177 million contract before the 2023 season. Swanson slugged his fourth home run on Tuesday night in the Cubs’ 10-6 win over the Texas Rangers.

The Cubs got another quality start from their starting pitcher. This time it was Jameson Taillon who threw six innings allowing three runs and five hits while striking out six.

This game got wild in the eighth inning. The Cubs had a one-run lead heading into the inning. The Rangers tied the game at six after an infield single and a triple. Ian Happ led off the home half of the eighth, reaching on an error. Seiya Suzuki followed with a strikeout. Texas chose to intentionally walk Kyle Tucker to put runners at first and second. Jon Berti then reached on an error to load the bases. Swanson followed with a two-run single to give the Cubs an 8-6 lead. After a double steal and a Nico Hoerner strikeout, Pete Crow-Armstrong singled to score both guys and give the Cubs a 10-6 lead.

Ryan Pressly came on for the ninth. He gave up two hits but escaped without giving up a run.

Chicago will look for a series sweep on Wednesday when they send Shota Imanaga to the mound to take on Tyler Mahle. First pitch is scheduled for 1:20 PM Central at Wrigley Field.
