WrestleMania VIII Flashback: Randy Savage Beats Ric Flair for WWF Championship (1992)
Randy “Macho Man” Savage bounced back from a forced retirement to win the World Wrestling Federation title at WrestleMania VIII in Indianapolis.
In 1991, Savage lost a career vs. career match to The Ultimate Warrior at WrestleMania VII.
Things improved for the Macho Man when he married Miss Elizabeth at SummerSlam 91. He eventually was reinstated as a wrestler to continue his feud with Jake Roberts.
Ric Flair won the vacant WWF title by winning the 30-man Royal Rumble in 1992. Flair predictably targeted Elizabeth to add juice to the title match.
Savage took a page from Flair’s book and won the title with a rollup and a handful of tights.
HOGAN GOES OUT ON TOP
That wasn’t the main event, as Hulk Hogan defeated Sid Justice in the final match. Papa Shango interfered to cause a disqualification.
The heels beat on Hogan until The Ultimate Warrior ran out for the save. Warrior and Savage would take the top two spots while Hogan went off to Hollywood.
TITLE MATCHES
Bret Hart defeated “Rowdy” Roddy Piper in an outstanding match to recapture the Intercontinental title.
Ted DiBiase & Irwin R. Shyster (Money Inc.) retained the WWF tag team title with an intentional countout loss to The Natural Disasters (Earthquake & Typhoon).
If you think these finishes are bad, just wait until WrestleMania IX.

· Shawn Michaels defeated Tito Santana
