Stars Down Kraken To Complete Perfect Road Trip

If there’s any time to start playing good hockey, it is now, with just a couple of weeks left in the regular season.

The Dallas Stars are most certainly getting red hot at the exact right time.

On Monday night, the Stars took down the Seattle Kraken 3-1 to secure all eight possible points on their four-game road swing.

Dating back to their previous homestand, the Stars have now won six games in a row and trail the central division leading Jets by just four points.

“We’re still trying to hunt down Winnipeg,” Dallas coach Pete DeBoer said. “And we’re probably going to have to win almost every night here in order to have a chance to do that, and that’s our group’s goal.”

Kaapo Kakko did not help the Stars’ efforts to do just that when he opened the scoring for Seattle at just 1:02 in the first period.

However, just over a minute later, Matt Duchene tied things on a redirection off the stick of Mason Marchment.

“[Duchene] has been critical for us all year,” DeBoer said. “I think the first half of the year, he was definitely our MVP, and the second half of the year last year,

I thought he slumped a little bit. This year, he’s been really consistent. I think every time we roll him out there, he’s creating offense.”

45 seconds later, Wyatt Johnston scored a goal for the fifth game in a row in what would eventually be the game-winner.

In the third period Mikael Granlund fired a goal into a empty Seattle net to seal the game and seal the Stars perfect road trip.

Getting the start in net, Casey DeSmith was nearly perfect making 35 saves on 36 shot attempts.

“I think there’s still areas to improve, for sure, but I think we’re going in the right direction,” Duchene said.

“I think we’re doing some things that have been weaknesses for us lately a lot better. … The results matter, but we’re trying to get our game ready for the playoffs.”
