Cleveland Guardians Roster: Joey Cantillo Stays, Will Brennan Goes
Opening Day is two days away, and the Cleveland Guardians are finalizing their 26-man roster.
Joey Cantillo has earned a spot in the bullpen, while Andrew Walters was sent down to Columbus.
Cantillo will join Triston McKenzie and Jakob Junis in middle and long relief.
Paul Sewald is the new face in the back of the bullpen, along with Tim Herrin, Cade Smith, Hunter Gaddis, and Emmanuel Clase.
Tanner Bibee will lead the starting rotation, followed by Gavin Williams, Luis Ortiz, Ben Lively, and Logan Allen.
BAD NEWS FOR BRENNAN
Will Brennan was sent to the minors after previously being told that he would make the Opening Day roster.
Nolan Jones will take his spot in right field, platooning with Jhonkensy Noel.
Jones rejoined the Guardians in a trade that sent Tyler Freeman to the Rockies.
A WINNER AT SECOND BASE?
Gabriel Arias started at second base during last night’s 4-3 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks. Daniel Schneeman replaced him later.
Gavin Williams pitched five shutout innings in the win over Arizona. He finished the spring with a 2.08 ERA.
Gaddis, Herrin, and Clase each pitched a scoreless inning.
Steven Kwan hit a run-scoring triple to give Cleveland a 1-0 lead in the third inning.
The Guardians scored three more in the fifth. Ramirez hit an RBI single and later scored on a wild pitch.
Lane Thomas collected his 16th RBI of the spring on a groundout that scored Kwan.
Cleveland will finish the spring training schedule today with a rematch against Arizona at 3:40 p.m. Eastern.
