WrestleMania VI Flashback: The Ultimate Challenge (1990)

The Ultimate Warrior carried the banner of the World Wrestling Federation into the 1990s by defeating Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania VI.

This was a rare battle of the two top babyfaces (good guys) in the company.

Both defended their championships, as Hogan was WWF champion and Warrior had the Intercontinental belt.

Warrior avoided Hulk’s leg drop, pressed him over his head for the gorilla slam, and splashed him for the victory.

Seeing Hulk get pinned in the middle of the ring was as mind-blowing as Andre the Giant losing to Hogan three years earlier.

MORE HISTORY IS MADE

The WWF also presented its first-ever mixed tag team match, with Dusty Rhodes & Sapphire taking on Randy Savage & Sensational Sherri.

Miss Elizabeth, who usually didn’t get involved in matches, helped Sapphire defeat Sherri.

Demolition won their record-tying third WWF tag team title over the Colossal Connection. Andre the Giant & Haku had mopped the floor with Ax & Smash to win the belts four months earlier.

NOT SO PERFECT

“Mr. Perfect” Curt Hennig lost his first televised match when Brutus Beefcake scored the upset victory.

Ted DiBiase retained the Million Dollar Championship with a countout win over Jake “The Snake” Roberts.

“Rowdy” Roddy Piper fought Bad News Brown to a double-disqualification. Piper would have been canceled if this match happened today, because he painted half of his body black.
