2025 MLB Season Preview: Where Do The Chicago White Sox Go From Here?

The Chicago White Sox set a new franchise record with 121 losses last season. Could the 2025 version of the team be even worse? There is a legitimately possibility.

If there is one positive surrounding the franchise, Chicago has a strong farm system but these players are still years away. Will Venable will enter as the new manager with an impossible job ahead of him.

The White Sox traded Garrett Crochet this offseason, who was the only bright spot on the team last season. Davis Martin is returning from Tommy John surgery to be thrown into a rotation that features Jonathan Cannon at the top. Neither are exactly ace material. There is a chance that the White Sox have five starters with ERAs that exceed four. The Sox also struggled in the bullpen, especially after sending Michael Kopech to Los Angeles. Jared Shuster was strong in long relief but there was no shutdown closer at the back end.

Chicago decided not to move Luis Robert this offseason. This could be an option at the trade deadline once again but until then, Robert provides pop in the middle of the lineup with Andrew Vaughn. Mike Tauchmann will hit out of the leadoff spot this season while Josh Rojas and Joey Gallo also lurk near the bottom.

Overall, there is not much to be excited about on the current-day roster for the White Sox. Yes, the farm system is strong but that will not help the team here in 2025.

Record Prediction

It is hard to do what the White Sox did last season two years in a row. This is a team that has lost 100 or more games in each of the last two seasons but reached 121 losses last season and finished 51.5 games back in the division. Chicago did not improve from last season. In fact, the rotation is worse without Crochet. The White Sox will likely exceed 100 losses once again but let’s give them some credit and say that the team will not get into the 120s again.

Final Record: 54-108
