NFL Offseason Wish Lists: AFC West

The 2024 NFL Season is over, and the 2025 Offseason is in full swing! It’s an exciting time for fans and franchises alike as new hope dawns with the records reset for all 32 squads. With that in mind, I want to do a series looking at all 32 teams “Offseason Wish Lists” with a special look at how each team will attack the new league year and how they will use the various methods of adding talent to best prepare their rosters for 2025.

We’ll break it down by division over the coming days. We’ve already looked at the East, South, and North Divisions in both Conferences, as well as a regrouping NFC West. Finally for our last edition, an AFC West Division where everyone is still chasing the Chiefs:

KANSAS CITY CHIEFS

2024 Result: 15-2 Reg. Season, Lost in Super Bowl
Biggest Needs: OL, WR, DT
1st Round Draft Slot: 31st Overall
2025 Remaining Cap Space: -$19.5M

The Super Bowl runner ups have a clear gameplan once again after their 2nd Super Bowl loss in the Mahomes era, and that is to improve the OL in an effort to keep the league’s most dangerous QB clean. Retaining their own studs like Trey Smith and adding up and coming protectors, like they did by bringing in Jaylon Moore at OT. They need a boost along the defensive front as well, with Chris Jones aging and not much around him. Even after bringing back Hollywood Brown on a 1-year deal, KC needs WR help too. With a ton of work left to do just to get Cap compliant, they’ll need a big time Draft to add talent on both sides of the ball and keep their Championship runs going.

LOS ANGELES CHARGERS

2024 Result: 11-6 Reg. Season, Lost in AFC Wild Card Round
Biggest Needs: DT, Edge, RB
1st Round Draft Slot: 22nd Overall
2025 Remaining Cap Space: $84.1M

LAC has a lot at stake coming off a solid 2024 season and looking to build in year 2 of the Jim Harbaugh regime. Surrounding QB Justin Herbert with talent is always a big priority, but the Chargers biggest needs lie on the defensive side of the ball. Cutting Joey Bosa but retaining Khalil Mack means there’s a big hole to fill at the Edge, which I would assume will be addressed during the draft. The Chargers do boast the league’s largest remaining cap number after the first wave of Free Agency, so they can address multiple needs still up front on Defense, and then at RB and WR, where, despite adding FA Najee Harris on a 1-year deal, LAC will be looking to add playmakers around Herbert. The Chargers have lots of time and lots of resources to get things in order for an exciting 2025.

DENVER BRONCOS

2024 Result: 10-7 Reg. Season, Lost in AFC Wild Card Round
Biggest Needs: LB, TE, WR
1st Round Draft Slot: 20th Overall
2025 Remaining Cap Space: $27.6M

The Broncos surprising run to the playoffs was a major result of the development of 2024 6th Overall pick Bo Nix at QB. Now it’s time to get the Sophomore QB some playmakers on offense, specifically in the passing game. A big-play TE is a big need, as is adding help at WR and RB. They addressed a big hole at LB too with the signing of former 49er Dre Greenlaw, so the focus could move to the offensive side of the ball for the remainder of the Offseason. With almost $30M left in cap space and their full draft class looming, Denver has a great shot at improving on their 2024 Wild Card appearance this coming season.

LAS VEGAS RAIDERS

2024 Result: 4-13 Reg. Season, Missed Playoffs
Biggest Needs: QB, RB, DB
1st Round Draft Slot: 6th Overall
2025 Remaining Cap Space: $29.5M

The Raiders swooped in on Day 0 of Free Agency to make sure their biggest offseason need was taken care of. A 3rd Round pick to Seattle for Geno Smith means the Raiders have a legitimate QB since moving on from Derek Carr. They still need a lot of Offensive help specifically at the skill positions. With a decent amount of Cap left to work with LV can add playmakers for their new QB to play alongside All-World TE Brock Bowers. The organization took no time replacing a large group of departing FA’s in the secondary as well, which also was a top wish list item for the Silver and Black. While still probably a year away from joining the playoff race, the Raiders have an identity and formula under Tom Brady’s and Pete Carrol’s new leadership.
