Cleveland Guardians Strike Out 15 Arizona Diamondbacks in 4-0 Spring Training Win

Tanner Bibee pitched three shutout innings as the Cleveland Guardians rolled to a 4-0 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks in Cactus League play on Thursday.

Bibee, the returning ace of the Cleveland starting rotation, gave up two hits and a walk while striking out three.

Emmanuel Clase pitched a scoreless fourth inning, which was a relief after his rough spring debut.

Clase struck out two and lowered his spring ERA to 5.40.

WHAT ABOUT DOUG?

Doug Nikhazy is emerging as a dark horse to make the Opening Day roster. He struck out six batters in three scoreless innings.

Kolby Allard and Ryan Webb finished the shutout, as the Guardians struck out 15 Arizona hitters.

LONG BALLS FOR BO

Bo Naylor provided all of Cleveland’s offense in spectacular fashion.

He clobbered a solo homer to right field in the second inning.

Naylor added a three-run bomb in the third inning. Carlos Santana and Lane Thomas scored on the drive to right-center field.

SECOND-BASE BATTLE

Juan Brito is one of the contenders to become the Guardians’ new second baseman, but it’s not going well.

Brito went 0-for-3, dropping his spring batting average to .093.

Tyler Freeman, Gabriel Arias, Angel Martinez, and Daniel Schneemann are also contending for the job, and they can play other positions as well.

Cleveland will continue its Cactus League schedule today by visiting the (Sacramento) Athletics in Mesa, Ariz., at 3:05 p.m. Eastern.
