Don’t Call it a Comeback, Cavs Beat Celtics, 123-116
On Friday February 28th at 7:30 pm eastern time, the 48-10 Cleveland Cavaliers traveled to Boston Massachusetts to play the defending World Champion 42-17 Boston Celtics at the TD Garden. The Cavaliers last game was a 122-82 thrashing of the Orlando Magic in Orlando last Tuesday. The Celtics last game was a 117-97 loss in Detroit to the Detroit Pistons last Wednesday. The Cavaliers got Darius Garland back for this game, they had no players listed on their injury report. Out for the Celtics was Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday. Questionable for the Celtics were Jaylen Brown and Luke Kornet. This game is expected to be an Eastern Conference Finals playoff preview. But this is the first time the Cavaliers played Celtics since the Cavaliers traded for D’Andre Hunter.
In the first quarter the Celtics jumped out to an early 25-3 lead. The Cavaliers did steady the ship, and by the end of the quarter the Celtics led the Cavaliers 38-26. In the second quarter the Cavaliers drew a little closer to the Celtics. And at halftime the Celtics led the Cavaliers 74-64. In the third quarter the Cavaliers cut into the Celtics lead. And after three quarters of play the Celtics led the Cavaliers 98-95. In the fourth and final quarter the Cavaliers took over and won their 49th game of the season 123-116.
The Cavaliers’ leading scorer was Donovan Mitchell with 41 points in 35 minutes. Evan Mobley had a double-double with 17 points and 15 rebounds in 29 minutes of play. Up next for the 49-10 Cleveland Cavaliers is hosting the 27-33 Portland Trailblazers on Sunday March 2nd at 3:30 pm eastern time at the Rocket Arena in downtown Cleveland Ohio. The Cavaliers will be going for their 50th win of the season. Cavs fans and myself think this team can continue to win all the way to the postseason and the NBA finals.
