Browns RB Nick Chubb to be a Free Agent
On Wednesday February 25th at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine Indianapolis Indiana. Cleveland Browns general manager held a press conference and took questions from the media. What he said made news for Cleveland Browns fans. But what he did say about Nick Chubb was important to the outlook of the Browns offseason.
Andrew Berry did say that he expects running back Nick Chubb to test the free agent market. But he didn’t say that the Browns would not match his market value. What I see the Browns doing is letting Nick Chubb test the market to see what value he may bring to a contract. This will be when free agency begins on March 12th. Last year Chubb did a one-year restructure with incentives to come back from his two knee surgeries. He had a season ending broken foot injury at home against the Kansas City Chiefs in week 15. Nick Chubb will turn 30 years old this year and is coming off two season ending injuries in the last two years. What type of market value can there be for Nick Chubb?
Nick Chubb’s career with the Cleveland Browns has been excellent. Since being drafted in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns, Chubb has 6,843 career rushing yards with a 5.1 yards per carry average. This includes 51 rushing touchdowns and 5 receiving touchdowns. Before his week 2 season ending injury in 2023, he was on pace to have his bust in Canton Ohio at the end of his career. Other NFL teams are aware of what Nick Chub brings to the table. From what I am hearing Nick Chubb, and his representatives are seeking a potential $7 million dollars a year for at least 2 years. The Browns will be willing to give Chubb a $3.5 million dollar deal with incentives for 2 years. By letting him test the market the Browns and Nick Chubb can see the market value for his services as a running back. Hopefully with that market value, Nick Chubb can finish his career at home with the Cleveland Browns.
