WWE Elimination Chamber Flashback: Triple H Wins in 2003 and 2005

Triple H can rightfully be called the master of the Elimination Chamber match.

While he lost the first edition to Shawn Michaels in 2002, he walked out of the next two Chamber matches with the World title.

The Chamber concept was so cool when it debuted at Survivor Series 2002 that WWE brought it back nine months later at SummerSlam 2003.

HERE COMES GOLDBERG

Triple H faced the looming threat of Goldberg, who had dominated World Championship Wrestling and defeated The Rock in his WWE debut a few months earlier.

The other four guys in the Chamber were an impressive bunch: Chris Jericho, Shawn Michaels, Kevin Nash, and Randy Orton.

Jericho started the match against Michaels, with Orton and Nash as the next two participants. Jericho pinned Nash after a Sweet Chin Music superkick by Michaels.

As soon as Triple H emerged from his pod, Michaels hit Sweet Chin Music on him, knocking him right back into the pod.

Goldberg came in last and cleaned house, pinning Orton, Jericho, and Michaels in succession.

Triple H, who had done virtually nothing in the match, grabbed a sledgehammer from Ric Flair and knocked out the charging Goldberg for the pin.

Fans were very disappointed that Goldberg would not enjoy a long winning streak in WWE, but he defeated Triple H one month later to win the World title.

NEW YEAR’S REVOLUTION

The Raw brand had no World champion when 2005 began. Eric Bischoff had vacated the title after a double pin during a Triple Threat match involving Triple H, Edge, and Chris Benoit.

The Elimination Chamber returned at the first-ever New Year’s Revolution pay-per-view in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Benoit, Edge, and HHH were in the match for the vacant World title, along with Randy Orton, Batista, and Chris Jericho.

Jericho started the match again, this time with Benoit. Triple H, Edge, and Orton were the next three combatants.

Edge accidentally speared special referee Shawn Michaels, who blasted him with Sweet Chin Music, setting up a pin for Jericho.

Batista came in last and wiped out Benoit and Jericho, only to be eliminated after an RKO by Orton.

Before leaving the chamber, Batista clotheslined Orton, setting him up for the Pedigree by Triple H.

“The Game” had won his fifth World title to go with his five World Wrestling Federation championships.
