Wings Sign Japanese Standout Yamamoto To Training Camp Contract

The Dallas Wings have announced that they have signed 5’5 Japanese guard Mai Yamamoto to a training camp contract.

Yamamoto currently plays for the Toyota Antelopes of the Women’s Japan Basketball League where she averages 11.7 points, 2.9 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.3 steals per game.

Having been on the Antelopes since the 2017-2018 season, Yamamoto is no stronger to professional basketball.

FIBA is also a place where Yamamoto is very familiar as she competed for Japan at the Paris Olympics last summer and led Japan to a gold medal at the FIBA 3×3 U23 World Cup and was named the tournament’s MVP.

Yamamoto also helped Japan win gold medals at the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup in Jordan and the 2019 FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series in Xiong An.

As for the Wings in 2025, Yamamoto will come in and be looking to make an already crowded backcourt.

Dallas recently brought in Tyasha Harris and DiJonai Carrington to pair with superstar Arike Ogunbowale and fill out the backcourt.

That backcourt could also be getting more crowded when the Wings have the number one overall pick in the 2025 draft which they will likely use on Uconn superstar Paige Bueckers.

Dallas will open their 2025 season on May 16th when they take on the reigning finalist Minnesota Lynx.
