WWE Hall of Fame Spotlight: Triple H
Triple H was always a lock for the WWE Hall of Fame due to his stellar career in the ring.
As the current boss of the WWE, the only question was how his induction would happen.
Last week, Shawn Michaels and Undertaker broke the news to Triple H that he would headline the 2025 Class of the WWE Hall of Fame at WrestleMania week in Las Vegas in mid-April.
NOT-SO-HUMBLE BEGINNING
Triple H didnât have a long road to the top. Shortly after being trained in New England by Killer Kowalski, he showed up in World Championship Wrestling.
After a brief stint as Terra Ryzing, he added âJean-â to his first name and competed as Jean-Paul Levesque.
Just a year later, he made the jump to the World Wrestling Federation as âThe American Blue-Bloodâ Hunter Hearst Helmsley.
Triple H captured the Intercontinental title from âWildmanâ Marc Mero in late 1996. He dropped the title to Rocky Maivia four months later.
DEGENERATION X
His star rose quickly when he joined Shawn Michaelsâ raunchy Degeneration X faction with bodyguard Chyna and âRavishingâ Rick Rude.
Triple H took over DX after Michaels lost the WWF title to âStone Coldâ Steve Austin in 1998. HHH captured the WWF title for the first time in 1999 from Mankind.
He joined forces with eventual wife Stephanie McMahon, and they took over the WWF as the McMahon-Helmsley Faction. They also ran the company as The Authority in the mid-2010s.
Triple H kept winning championships over the years, and he formed his own Evolution group with former titleholder Ric Flair and future champions Batista and Randy Orton.
He waged two epic wars with The Undertaker, but he was unable to break Takerâs legendary WrestleMania winning streak.
Triple H won his 14th World title by eliminating Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose (Jon Moxley) to win the 2016 Royal Rumble.
His final title reign ended when Reigns beat him in the main event of WrestleMania 32.
TAKEOVER COMPLETE
DX never said it would take over the WWE, but thatâs what happened. Triple H is the boss of Raw and Smackdown, while Michaels runs the NXT brand.
As I wrote in my WWF history book, âKing of New York:â
âIf the WWF were Survivor, Triple H would be last person remaining on the island, holding the million-dollar check.â
