“Ben Johnson is the Head Coach of the Chicago Bears.” Let that sink in a little more, Bears fans. I know it’s been the only thing on your mind since the news broke this past Monday. But I need you to repeat it a few more times, for good measure. I need you to swish it around your brain a little bit, kind of like how a wine taster swishes a chardonnay in their mouth.

This is, WITHOUT QUESTION, the greatest coaching decision that this team has made since the Lovie Smith days. After YEARS of employing every dimwit and dork in the book, the higher-ups in the franchise have FINALLY brought in a person who the fans actually WANTED. They FINALLY pulled their collective heads out of the sand, listened to the city, and DID SOMETHING RIGHT!

Why do I believe that, you may ask? Well…..

It’s because the message that this man gave to the people of the Bears’ organization had me ready to run through a brick wall. The way he told the people (and the world) that “this is exactly where they wanted to be,” had me ready to suit up and run onto Soldier Field myself. The passion, the joy, the energy that he brought to that room……it was something else. It was that kick to the pants that this organization needed, and it is what’s sending us Bears’ fans into the off-season with the BIGGEST of smiles.

Johnson, for those of you who haven’t been following along, was THE top coaching candidate this off-season. Teams like the Raiders, Jaguars, and Bears were CLAMORING to get the now former Lions OC to their team. He helped lead the #1 offense in the league to the Divisional Round of the playoffs, and turned Jared Goff into (wait for it) an MVP contender.

He is the REAL DEAL, who was able to beat out the likes of Mike McCarthy, Kliff Kingsbury, and even (hold your laughter) Pete Carroll. The man is coming in to an ideal situation, with QB Caleb Williams coming off of an impressive rookie season, despite being lead by ‘Tweedle Dee’ Eberflus and ‘Tweedle Dumb’ Waldron. The former USC Trojan will actually have a competent offensive mind in his ear, molding him, and helping him get to the next level of his development.

Simply put; the Bears got their man, and the future couldn’t look brighter.

This…..this is a big moment for the city of Chicago. For YEARS, the McCaskey’s have toyed us with the ‘possibility’  of building a better roster. For YEARS, we’ve heard this family say that they “understand” that we’re frustrated, and that they know we’re a “passionate” group of people. But NOW, after so much torment……we finally have something to believe in.

We do, we really do! I get it; we were “supposed” to believe in 2024. That is what the media told us. But with Eberflus at the helm, and all of the garbage that he put us through over the past number of years……we knew he wasn’t “the guy.” We knew that something was “too good to be true,” and that something was bound to happen.

But NOW……now is the time to celebrate. Now is the time to actually BELIEVE in the future. This team finally did something right, Chicago. It’s an absolute MIRACLE!

The 2025 season can’t come soon enough. But in the end, as always…..what do I know? I’m just a guy from the Midwest, with a beer and a laptop, trying to make sense of this world.
