3 Veteran QB Options For New York Giants

The glory days are over. Now, we are in the dog days of the New York Giants as a franchise.

Since Eli Manning retired, the Giants have struggled to find consistency and success at the quarterback position. There are currently no quarterbacks on the roster heading into the offseason.

Drew Lock was on a one-year deal he signed in free agency while Tommy DeVito is also off the active roster. Realistically, neither option is exciting for the future.

While the Giants hold the third-overall pick in the draft, a quarterback is an option but it is also very likely that the team adds a veteran option under center.

Honorable Mention: Matthew Stafford is the name linked to the Giants for obvious reasons but the fit just doesn’t make sense. New York is not ready to win and Stafford is a quarterback that will likely look for a better situation. Not to mention, the asking price in a trade might be too high for a rebuilding team to pay. Stafford has years left in his career and they will unlikely be spent rotting in New York.

3. Kirk Cousins

Kirk Cousins is not a name that will excite man but the facts are the facts. He is an experience quarterback that has put up big numbers in the league. Last season, he was coming off an injury and will likely be healthy this offseason. Cousins has made his money in the league and will come cheap at 36 years old. As a short-term option for the Giants, this is an intriguing option. The team is not going to win no matter who the quarterback is. This is all looking to the future.

2. Justin Fields

Fields has been linked to both New York teams since his days in Chicago ended. The Pittsburgh Steelers decided to pay the minuscule price to the Bears to acquire Fields and eventually making him a backup. Fields is not a free agent and is looking for a new opportunity to play. The Giants can give him that in the short term.

1. Russell Wilson

Wilson and the Giants have felt like a match since he left Seattle. Unfortunately, this might not be for football reasons. Wilson and his wife, Ciara, have wanted to come to New York to build their brand in the biggest market in the world. Is this more of a headache than a commitment to football? Regardless, Wilson could help tutor a young quarterback that might be taken in the draft. The truth remains, Wilson’s best football is behind him and a short-term deal with the Giants could be one of few options.
