3 Takeaways From The Rangers 6-3 Exhibition Win Over The Royals

The Texas Rangers returned to Globe Life Field for the first time in 2025 on Monday night as they played their first of two exhibition games against the Kansas City Royals.

Texas used four home runs and some strong pitching to take down Kansas City by a score of 6-3.

As always, there are takeaways, so let’s break down three of them.

1 Tyler Mahle looks sharp – In his final start of the Spring, Tyler Mahle threw 3 innings allowing four hits and two runs.

However, through the first three innings, Mahle faced the minimum allowing just one single in the 3rd which was erased on a strike em-out, throw-em-out double play.

In the first inning, Mahle punched out last year’s AL MVP runner-up Bobby Witt Jr on three straight fastballs.

Mostly pitching to contact, Mahle was able to navigate through the Royals lineup one time without allowing anything hit hard.

In the 4th, Mahle allowed three straight singles and walked in a run before the end of his night. Mahle will make his season debut on Saturday in the 3rd game of the Rangers’ four-game set with the Red Sox.

2 The Power Rangers have returned – On the very first pitch of the game, Marcus Semien turned on a ball and sent it into the left-field seats to make it 1-0 Rangers.

That would be foreshadowing for what was to come as Texas slugged four home runs to score all of their 6 runs.

Leody Taveras continued his hot spring in the fourth as he launched one into the right field seats to extend the Rangers’ lead.

After that, it was the new guys who got things going as Jake Burger whacked a ball into the Rangers bullpen to tie the game at three.

In the 7th, it was Joc Pederson who drove a three-run shot into the Rangers’ bullpen to give the Rangers the 6-3 lead they would eventually win by.

3 Bullpen Regulars Come Out Strong – Bruce Bochy said that the bullpen “could be pretty close” to the way it was laid out tonight.

If indeed that is the case and the group pitches the way they did tonight, the Rangers could be in good shape moving forward.

Jacob Webb, Robert Garcia, Chris Martin, and Luke Jackson combined to allow just one run in four innings while locking down the win.

Martin and Jackson both threw 1-2-3 innings with a pair of strikeouts in the 8th and 9th respectively.
