3 Takeaways From The Rangers 6-1 Loss To The Giants
Day two of Cactus League play saw new Rangers debuts and familiar faces on the bump for the first time this Spring.
Ultimately, Texas fell 6-1 to the San Francisco Giants dropping to 0-2 on the Spring.
Per usual, there are always takeaways so, let’s break down three of them from this afternoon’s contest.
1. Jack Leiter throws two shutout – No matter how you slice it up, Jack Leiter fired two scoreless innings in his first outing of the Spring.
Leiter fired a 1-2-3 3rd inning upon entering the game. He got Marco Luciano to ground out to short, struck out the ultra patient Jung Hoo Lee, and got Luis Matos to pop out.
In the 4th Leiter had a little help from the defense behind him as he was able to wiggle out of a jam.
After allowing a single and a walk, Leiter got a pop-out to get the first out of the inning. The very next batter of the inning was Brett Wisely singled into left field where Dustin Harris fielded and fired home for an outfield assist and the second out of the inning.
Leiter then was able to get a ground out to work his way out of the inning and out of the jam.
2 Tyler Mahle hit hard after a strong first – Tyler Mahle got the start for the Rangers and worked a strong scoreless first inning.
Mahle struck out the first two Giants he faced getting LeMonte Wade Jr swinging and Luciano looking en route to a scoreless first.
In the second, Mahle was hit around the yard allowing a single before the next batter, former Ranger Sam Huff took Mahle deep to center.
Wisley would rope a double before Mahle eventually got out of the inning finishing with a line of 2 IP 4H 2ER 2K 0BB.
3 Trevor Hauver stays hot – Thus far, the only person to drive in a run for the Rangers this spring is outfield prospect Trevor Hauver.
Hauver crushed a home run in the 8th for the Rangers’ only run of the afternoon. Combined with the 2 RBI double he had yesterday, he has driven in all three Texas runs this Spring.
Tomorrow afternoon, Texas will travel to Mesa where they will take on the Chicago Cubs in the third game of Cactus League play.
