3 Takeaways From The Rangers 3-1 Loss To The Royals
Spring Training is officially in the books as the Rangers wrapped up their exhibition schedule with a 3-1 loss to the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday afternoon at Globe Life Field.
Jacob deGrom and Kumar Rocker took the mound for their final outings of the Spring, and each threw the ball well.
Those are two of the always many takeaways so let’s break down three of them.
1. deGrom’s Final Tune Up – Jacob deGrom took the mound for the final time this Spring as he prepares for his first start on Sunday afternoon.
deGrom went four innings, allowing four hits and three runs. However, that final line doesn’t tell the whole story.
After allowing a run in the first, deGrom was able to retire seven straight Royals before giving up two runs in the fourth on a Salvador Perez two-run shot.
Overall, it was a solid final spring outing for deGrom, who will make his season debut on Sunday afternoon.
2 Hours After Finding Out He Made The Team, Rocker Shines – Just a matter of hours after finding out he would be in the Rangers starting rotation to open the season, Kumar Rocker took the mound at Globe Life Field.
Rocker fired four shutout innings, collecting eight strikeouts. He did walk three batters in an effort that will certainly need to be improved, but he was able to work around those.
Kansas City base runners were able to swipe two bags off Rocker as he continues to try and improve his time to the plate.
Rocker will take the bump on Monday when the Rangers open a three-game set in Cincinnati against the Reds.
3 It’s time for the real thing – Finally, Spring Training is in the books as the Rangers have completed this spring’s schedule.
Texas will open the season on Thursday afternoon when they take on the Boston Red Sox at 3:05 at Globe Life Field.
