3 QB Options For New York Jets After Aaron Rodgers Departure

Stop us if you’ve heard this before — the New York Jets need a quarterback.

Also stop us here, there was a failed experiment in New York and it was surrounded by the Jets once again.

The Jets and Aaron Rodgers agreed to part ways this offseason and this leaves the team needing a new option under center. From Super Bowl aspirations to the bottom once again in just two years. It is a chilling, familiar situation for New York.

There are many ways the team can go, whether is it in free agency or the 2025 NFL Draft.

3. Sam Darnold

Could a reunion be in the works? It will likely be considered after the season that Darnold had in Minnesota but there are multiple variables that could not make sense here. First, it is the contract the Darnold will likely get based off this year. The Jets would not be wise to pay $40 million to a player that failed in New York. That takes us to the next case, Darnold will return to a place he did not have success and will not have Kevin O’Connell and the Vikings’ coaching staff on the sideline.

2. Jaxson Dart

Dart has darted up draft boards in recent weeks and there is a chance that he could be taken in the Top 10. Will the Jets really consider him at No. 7? That might bring some uncomfortable feelings but it is always a possibility. Let’s not forget, we saw the crosstown team take Daniels Jones at No. 6. If Dart fell to the second round, it seems like a clear option but it is unlikely now that this happens.

1. Tyrod Taylor

Taylor is the only in-house option for the Jets at this moment. As a veteran bridge quarterback, Taylor makes the most sense. He has plenty of experience as a backup quarterback and has played this role before. He knows the Jets and will get to know the new system right away. Taylor might not be the future of the Jets but it seems hard to believe that the team will find this right away this offseason. Let Taylor play out the 2025 season and go from there.
