2025 MLB Season Previews: What Exactly Are The Baltimore Orioles?

The Baltimore Orioles are entering an important season for this regime.

There is not the hype surrounding the team that there was at this time last year. The young Orioles won 101 games in 2023 and made some big splashes last offseason. The team stumbled to 91 wins and was eliminated in two games in the AL Wild Card Round. This makes Baltimore 0-5 in its last five postseason games.

The Orioles will enter the 2025 season with the same young core led by Gunnar Henderson and Adley Rutschman. If Jackson Holliday can take the next step at second base, the Orioles will feature one of the great young middle infields in baseball. That is a big question mark to this point of his career. Heston Kjerstad is another up-and-coming youngster that will make an impact for the Orioles. It is not out of the question for Kjerstad to be in the Opening Day lineup when it is all said and done.

The addition of Tyler O’Neill on a three-year contract provides some pop in the middle of the lineup lost with Anthony Santander.

The issue seems like the pitching. Baltimore traded for Corbin Burnes last year but allowed him to leave in free agency after just one season. In an improved AL East this season, the starting five for Baltimore leaves much to be desired. Zach Eflin and Grayson Rodriguez are at the top of the rotation, along with newly-acquired Charlie Morton.

Baltimore is hoping to see Rodriguez take the next step in becoming an ace. The bullpen is back ended by Felix Bautista, who has turned into one of the best closers in the game.

Record Prediction

The question surrounding the Orioles all season long will be, what exactly is this team? Baltimore has been extremely unproductive in the postseason. After the fall last year, the Orioles will have a lot to prove in a strong division this year. With this pitching staff and so much reliability on young players, the Orioles might take a step back this season. They can still find a way into the postseason but will have to have many new names step up if it is going to be more.

Final Record: 88-74
