2025 MLB Season Preview: Which Version Of The Philadelphia Phillies Will Show Up?
It was a disappointing ending to the 2024 season for the Philadelphia Phillies.
Philadelphia matched up with NL East foe New York Mets in the divisional round and lost in four games. The lineup struggled to hit while the pitching staff could not get the Mets out when it mattered. This showed right away in Game 1 after the bullpen imploded following a gem from Zack Wheeler.
This season, Wheeler leads a rotation as an NL Cy Young candidate. The Phillies did not do much in the offseason but they did make a trade in division to acquire Jesus Luzardo from the Miami Marlins. Luzardo joins a staff that is in place long-term with the likes of Aaron Nola and Cristopher Sanchez signing extensions last year. Ranger Suarez was one player that will have to find consistency this season.
Trea Turner and Bryce Harper are the only consistent options in the lineup where you know what you are going to get each year. Reuniting these two was a major priority for Philly and they are in place for years to come. The questions remain, what is Alec Bohm? Does Nick Castellano have a good year left? What about Bryson Stott? These question marks came back to haunt Philly in the postseason after what was a very quick start to the season.
The Phillies enter the season as one of the top teams in the National League once again this season. Last year, they took advantage of injuries in Atlanta to win the NL East and earn a bye in the postseason. That will be the goal once again this season but the Phillies will have to win. They have regressed each year since a trip to the World Series in 2022.

Record Prediction
The Phillies did not have a busy offseason but did make the rotation better with the addition of Luzardo. It all comes down to which version of the team shows up this season. Philadelphia went out of the postseason in a whimper last season and the hope is that it does not happen again. It will rely on experience and depth in the staff to lead a strong lineup once again.
Final Record: 90-72
