2025 MLB Season Preview: Where Do The Toronto Blue Jays Stand In The AL East?
The Toronto Blue Jays are looking to improve upon a difficult 2024 season and there are many directions the season could go.
Toronto began the offseason with rumors surrounding Vlad Guerrero Jr. It started with trade rumors before talks of an extension came to light. It turns out that Guerrero will become the next young star to enter free agency looking for a massive contract. If you are Toronto, you will enter next year ready to pay Guerrero since you have been desperate to pay someone for years now. That is a discussion for another day.
This season, Guerrero headlines a lineup that will feature speed and pop at the top and into the middle. The Blue Jays added Anthony Santander to a contract and he will provide Guerrero with some protection in the lineup. Santander will also join a strong outfield with George Springer. The offseason also included signing Alejandro Kirk to a five-year deal to be the catcher for the foreseeable future. He is a Gold Glove caliber catcher that can get into a ball at the dish.
Bo Bichette and Andres Gimenez are a strong duo up the middle while Guerrero caps a good infield. The lineup for the Blue Jays is a good one and they will have to score a lot of runs in a difficult AL East.
Toronto will also have to pitch to other strong lineups in the AL East. Jose Berrios and Kevin Gausman are back at the top of the rotation and will have to pitch to ace-like status. This already brings power to the rotation. The Blue Jays took a flier on Max Scherzer on a one-year deal this offseason. Scherzer and Chris Bassitt are experienced arms that can be good on the mound and in the clubhouse. The bullpen was a weak one last season and could be the weakness of the team once again.
The Blue Jays are staring down the barrel of an important offseason heading into 2026 and it will be interesting to see if this impacts production on the field. What we know is the Blue Jays should score a lot of runs and could be a surprise team in the American League.

Record Prediction
It was a 74-win season for Toronto in 2024 and it came as a big surprise after high expectations. The expectations are a bit tempered this season, which could work in favor of the Blue Jays. The team has pop and has experience in the rotation. The Blue Jays might not be the favorites in the AL East but could make some noise when it is all said and done.
Final Record: 84-78
