2025 MLB Season Preview: The St. Louis Cardinals Continue Transition

The St. Louis Cardinals have not been an organization that has done a lot of rebuilding or transitioning.

This is a franchise that is used to chasing World Series with the likes of Albert Pujols in a star-studded lineup. Of course, that was years ago and here we are entering 2025. That transition period is here.

The Cardinals moved on from Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado might be next. St. Louis has been looking to get younger and that is what is happening here. Masyn Winn looks like the next great at shortstop for the Cards and will retake his position along with being place at the top of the lineup. Arenado holds up third base right now but he brings many Gold Gloves to the field. Willson Contreras has made the move to first base.

The starting rotation is the most consistent part of the team. The Cardinals brought back plenty of production from last year’s team, including Sonny Gray and Miles Mikolas. It will be a group of five that has experience working together and has had success in St. Louis.

The outfield has a chance to be strong if Jordan Walker can remain healthy. The former first-round pick struggled with injuries in recent years and has halted his progress. Lars Nootbar and a combination of Michael Siani and Victor Scott will be in the corner spots.

It is a new-look Cardinals’ team and one that the fans will not be used to. In St. Louis, the roster is not complete and not as good as fans will hope but there are chances to win some games at full strength.
