The Los Angeles Dodgers were not satisfied with a World Series title last season.

Los Angeles went out and loaded up in the pitching staff to match an elite lineup. The Dodgers won the World Series last season without the presence of an elite pitching staff. This included using bullpen games every fifth day. Now, there is depth in the rotation and bullpen for the Dodgers to use over the course of the season.

It starts with Roki Sasaki. For the second offseason in a row, the Dodgers landed the prize pitching prospect out of Japan. The difference is, Sasaki did not break the bank. This allowed the Dodgers to add Blake Snell to a rotation that already included Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Tyler Glasnow. Shohei Ohtani will also be thrown into the mix at some point, when healthy. It will be interesting to see if Ohtani DH’s again this year without stepping on the mound.

Until then, Ohtani will be placed at the top of the lineup looking to win another MVP award. He has turned into one of the most well-rounded bats in baseball and is widely regarded as the best player in the game. Ohtani is followed by former MVPs Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman. Los Angeles brought back Teoscar Hernandez as well to keep together the best lineup in baseball.

Into the bullpen — an area that was also a priority for the Dodgers and they built something that is seen in video games. Los Angeles brought back Blake Treinen, who made a major impact during the title run, but did not stop there. The Dodgers handed out a massive contract to Tanner Scott while also adding Kirby Yates into the mix. Scott closed out the first game of the season before Opening Day.

The Dodgers season kicked off on Tuesday morning in Japan against the Chicago Cubs. It was a win for Los Angeles with Ohtani getting two hits and Hernandez driving in a run. Betts and Freeman did not play and the Dodgers still earned a 4-1 win. Scott earned the save and the bullpen did not allow a hit.
