2025 MLB Season Preview: How Low Will The A’s Go In 2025?

The Athletics are no longer in Oakland. There is a new look coming to the franchise and that might be needed for a team that has not made the postseason in six years.

Believe it or not, the A’s made some moves this offseason. The front office handed out a new record contract of three years, $67 million for Luis Severino at the top of the rotation. The A’s also traded for Jeffrey Springs to be a starter. Springs was hurt last season but pitched to a 2.46 ERA in 2022. This is not a rotation that will jump off the page but the A’s wanted to make improvements.

Mason Miller makes the bullpen the strength for the A’s. He was fourth in AL Rookie of the Year voting, looking like one of the best closers in baseball. Miller totaled 28 saves and struck out 14.4 batters per nine innings.

The A’s will implement more young players that could build for the future. This includes former top pick Jacob Wilson. He took over last year toward the end of the year and will now get a chance to play everyday. Lawrence Butler is another young player that the A’s are hoping breaks out even further.

Brent Rooker signed a rookie extension for the A’s after another strong year, solidifying his spot at the franchise player for the move.

Record Prediction

The Athletics broke a two-year stretch of losing 100 or more games. They came one win away from 70, and this will be the ballpark once again. The Athletics attempted to improve the starting rotation this season but it is still not elite by any stretch. The team looks similar to how it did last year. It would not be surprising to see the team finish with the same record.

Final Record: 68-94
