2025 MLB Season Preview: Houston Astros Look To Remain In Contention
It is a completely new-look Houston Astros heading into 2025.
The front office in Houston has slowly moved the big names that helped the Astros become the dynastic team that has added championships.
This time, it was Alex Bregman and Kyle Tucker. The Astros moved Tucker, who is expected to sign a massive contract next offseason, to the Chicago Cubs. Bregman received offers from Houston but decided to take a short-term deal with the Boston Red Sox. This leaves Jose Altuve and Yordan Alvarez left in the lineup for the Astros to build around.
The move the Astros made in the offseason was to bring in Christian Walker to play first base. He provides a Gold Glove option over there while also having the potential to hit 35+ home runs. Walker will provide some protection for Alvarez in the middle of the lineup. Jeremy Pena continue to develop at shortstop and is looking like the next great one.
The Astros have dealt with injuries in the rotation led by Cristian Javier. It is unlikely that he is ready to go in time for Opening Day, which means the team will have to dive into its depth. Framber Valdez continues to be a dark-horse Cy Young candidate to lead the rotation.
The question is, for a team that wants to win titles, can Houston accomplish this goal in 2025?

The Astros were eliminated early in the Wild Card round last season and will look to get further. This is a team that will flirt with 90 games and it will be interesting to see how it plays out in October.
