2025 MLB Season Preview: Are The Texas Rangers Back To Being Contenders?

The Texas Rangers are two years removed from the first World Series title in franchise history. Last season, the team lost to attrition and this led to just 78 wins.

Now, the question is, can the Rangers stay healthy and contend in the American League?

The Rangers brought back Nathan Eovaldi at the top of the rotation. This was a major move that bodes well for competing in the postseason. The biggest topic surrounding the Rangers will be what will be brought from Jacob deGrom off Tommy John surgery. In two years with the Rangers, deGrom has pitched to a 2.41 ERA but the problem is, he has not been available much.

The Rangers will have one of the most interesting rotations in the league this season. We do not know what the year will hold for deGrom. That’s topic one. The second topic is whether or not Jack Leiter can improve. He was taken with the second-overall pick in the 2021 MLB Draft but has struggled at the Big League level. Kumar Rocker, another top-three pick of the Rangers, will also be in the mix for a rotation spot but it is more than likely that he starts in the minors.

The middle infield remains the strength for the Rangers. Marcus Semien and Corey Seager will return as the leaders in Texas on long-term contracts. Seager was one of the injuries that hurt the Rangers last season but he is expected to be healthy. Josh Jung turned into an All-Star last season while Jake Burger was acquired from the Miami Marlins to provide some pop at first base. With Adolis Garcia and Wyatt Langford in the outfield, the Rangers are deep in the field and well-equipped to make a run.

Record Prediction

If you are a baseball fan, the Rangers are going to be one of the more-fun teams to watch around the league. Langford is a former top pick and there are others in the rotation as well. Garcia needs to bounce back from a down year in 2024 while Semien and Seager will need to stay healthy and continue to be stars in the middle. Is this a World Series team? If all goes right, the Rangers will be a tough out once again.

Final Record: 89-73
